Why I made it
Claude made an ad for one of my clients. The star rating on it counted up to five, and on the way it showed 3.4 stars. His real rating is five stars, from 47 Google reviews. Nobody typed 3.4. The animation just passed through it.
On another job, Claude drafted a task breakdown, and the numbers in it weren't based on our real data. They looked neat. They didn't make sense.
Both were caught before they went out. Here's what I took from it. When Claude doesn't know something, it can fill the gap with something that sounds right. And when it does know, it doesn't always check what its own work is saying. So now I make it check.
What it does
Before anything goes to a client, you type "source check". Claude then:
- Lists every number, name, rating, quote and claim in the draft
- Shows where each one came from: something you gave it, a page it opened, or a calculation
- Flags everything it can't trace to a source, and gives you a question to confirm it, a rewrite without it, or a way to label it honestly
- Says READY FOR YOUR SIGN-OFF only when every claim is traced. You still read it before you send.
It works on ads, website copy, posts, estimates, reports and proposals. For a video or an animation, give it the script, the storyboard or the code it was made from.
What a check looks like
Checked: an estimate for a dental clinic website (5 line items, a total, 3 terms lines). Four of its rows shown.
| # | Claim | Status | Evidence |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | "Google Business Profile setup" | Given | Brief: "Set up their Google Business Profile" |
| 2 | "Logo refresh: 6 hours" | Guess | The logo refresh is in the brief. The 6 hours has no record behind it |
| 3 | "Delivered in 2 weeks" | Guess | Not in the brief or the rate card |
| 4 | "Most clinics see more bookings within a month" | Guess | No source. It's a promise about results |
NOT READY: 3 guesses.
- What hours do you put on the logo refresh?
- What turnaround can you commit to?
- Remove the bookings line, or tell me what it's based on.
A made-up example. Your table lists every claim in your own draft.
Where it comes from
It's rule one of the skill I make brand videos with: if it's not stated, it's not on screen. I pulled that rule out and made it stricter, so it works on any client job.
What you need
A Claude account on any plan (Free, Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise), with code execution turned on. The install steps are on the next page. Not on Claude? There's also a version you can paste into ChatGPT or Gemini.
